Even golems can find love
She was made out of steel, plastic, and a lot of other things by a nice couple who eventually divorced and left her to take care of herself.
He was made mostly out of clay by an elderly Jewish man with a warm smile, a sprightly demeanor, and a persistent cough. He mostly did housework, but also was a friend to his maker. When the inevitable happened, he was inconsolable for some time. He spent almost seven years silently feeding pigeons in Central Park, stopping only to buy more bread when needed.
She liked to undertake little projects, but was absent-minded and frequently lost herself in her work.
He had a sharp attention to detail, but generally felt pretty creative.
She mostly liked to watch old movies, but would usually go see anything that had Tom Cruise in it. She wanted to buy a cat, but knew that her absent-mindedness would be a problem. Her psychiatrist suggested a stuffed animal. This depressed her, for some reason.
He had a good-sized collection of books, and had learned Spanish, Italian, sign language, and bicycle repair from them
She enjoyed working with her hands, and would spend days in her garden, or sculpting, or painting. One room of her house was carefully temperature-controlled, and contained a collection of old records that would make any hobbyist weak in the knees.
He finally placed a personal ad in April, with some trepidation and more than a little hope.
She bought the paper that day because the cooking supplement looked interesting, and happened upon his ad more or less by chance.
Their first date contained absolutely no uncomfortable silence. She showed him how to knit. He taught her how to dance. They discovered a mutual enjoyment of folktales. They lost track of time because neither needed to sleep, and their first date wound up being two weeks long.
Their second date was a month long, and ended only because they both agreed that they should probably just get married.
And so they did. After a conversation that was both shorter and less awkward than you might expect, they decided to adopt.
But adoption could wait. First, they went to an animal shelter and got a kitten.
